Getting the joy back.

Postby greenmountain on Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:56 pm

For the last two years I have not had much fun shooting my recurve bow. I has some pain issues that had to be worked out. Now I am feeling better and shooting better than I ever did in the past.
I can atribute this to several factors.
1. The pain is almost gone!
2. I shoot for the fun of it not for score.
3. I try to focus on the target not on my form.
4. I shoot with a group of people who enjoy shooting more than competition.
5. I have adopted in shooting with my glasses on. Although i don't need glasses for distance I do gain clarity with them.

Although I am not the greatest shooter out there the joy is back. Bob

Yep, I know what you mean. When there is a archery shoot at our little range,it's more about going to have fun. We set up a 10 X 20 canopy the day before. Arrowflicker and his wife brings his fried rice and some marinated meat, I do a scrambled egg and sausage breakfast, our guys in our group brings doughnuts and pastries, there's plenty of food and fun.
It's just a great time, we shoot for "Kill shots" more than the 10 X ring, and sometimes, just doing that puts us on the the winners podium.

It's always a great day shooting with the group, after the 3-4 target, the "serious" people finally join in on the fun.
Then after the shoot, we have a day of relaxing and having a good time, people just seem to appear at our place.
Sometimes we stay till dark. Or someone will show how to make strings, or their new bow. it's a great time.

Our next shoot is March 13th it's the 8th annual Bowhunter Extreme Challenge.

I agree Bob. it's not the points, it's the fun and comrade. especially on the course, the razzing never stops.
Especially if someone shoots with a pink bow........ :P

I had the honor of shooting with Bob and Flyfish a few years ago and have to tell you all I had the best time of my life!

What great guys they were to put up with me and my friend Julie. Bob and Fly were a double pack of fun, and yep no pressure to win, just making holes in the sky.....................and the dirt LOL!!

I've moved from Vermont to Idaho it's a long ride to go to a shoot so I don't see it ever happening again but I sure have great memories!!

Thanks Bob!!

Hello 4pt: I miss our walks in the woods where we fling arrows. I attempted to e mail several times but the link was not correct. I miss our shoots too. Julie is always welcome. Please let her know. I hope you will send me an e- mail sometime. Archery is not the end all but a means to connect with other people in a positive way.Bob
