I Put my First Field Shoot on the Protec Today.

Postby 2005Ultramag on Mon Apr 06, 2009 3:01 am

Started out good, but about halfway through I started hitting left. Maybe getting tired was effecting my form, but after going through 5 targets and scoring only one 5 I broke down and moved my pin that was on at the beginning to the left.
I started hitting decent again, and then it happened. I put an arrow in the right target from the left stake of a fan end. :( Gotta learn to mentally recover from that stuff. I took my frustration to the next target.
Final score... 478 on a day I should have been able to shoot 500-515 if I could have been a little more consistent.
I guess I'll take it being it's the first time out with this bow.

Mayberry, MD... May 4th. We'll see what happens there.

Heck yea. Field shoots are always fun. I also learned that the potential for doing much better s there if I can get more consistent. I'm setting a goal of a 515 round before the season is out. I can do that.

Congrats on your fun days out. The hardest thing dor me to do is to let go of the score and just get out and have fun. Whenever I get that done the better scores just seem to pop up from nowhere. Relax, breath, shoot. Now go for another walk.

I tried that by not even looking at the totals as we progressed through the course. I tried to shoot each target as an individual effort.

I just did some figuring on my calculator because of my 515 goal for yesterday.

560 is a perfect score.

If you shoot a 504 then you averaged two 5s, and two 4s for every target.

If you shoot a 532 then you averaged three 5s and one 4 for every target.

515 is an attainable goal. 532 might be a stretch.

fleched up some GT400s and picked up a new
SpottHogg HoggIt and bolted it on.
decided to stay in BHFS till I decide if I enjoy it !!

That's exactly how I got started last year... using my Trykon XL hunting rig.

You'll have a target bow before next season starts.

lucky you have a course nearby.

the only way i can make it to a field shoot would be to sneak into Jim's trunk and ride to pine hill.

i just shoot 50cm faces in my back yard from 30-50.................and the 65cm beyond. farthest ive stretched it has been to 60.

get my new strings on and a calm day...................might explore 70.

im envious of easterners that have a lot of courses available.

I finally broke 500. I shot a 502 at Mayberry today. That's a new personal best... again. I've shot better every time I've been out this year.
The exciting part of today's shoot is that I dropped am entire arrow because my sight was set wrong, and I had some fletching contact that earned me a couple of 3s.
I plan to address both of those issues next time out, and hopefully I can get up, and over a 510.
